The one night a year we practically <em>encourage<\/em> kids to dress up, knock on strangers&#8217; doors, and beg for candy\u2014the very thing we spend the other 364 days warning them <em>not<\/em> to do. Seems legit? Its a <em>hard pass<\/em> for me. But let\u2019s be real: beyond the 513 reasons to not engage or celebrate, out here in rural land, we\u2019re not exactly prime territory for a night of spooky sugar-fueled festivities. Here\u2019s why:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. *knock knock * \u201cWho\u2019s There?\u201d Oh, It\u2019s Just the Cows.<\/strong><br>Out here, there\u2019s no neighborhood cul-de-sac, no porch lights luring kids in with promises of full-size candy bars. Nope. We\u2019ve got wide open spaces, maybe a barn or two, and a pasture full of cows who couldn\u2019t care less about costumes (trust me, I asked). The idea of trick-or-treating when your nearest \u201cneighbor\u201d is a mile down the road is laughable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Stranger Danger\u2026 Except Tonight?<\/strong><br>Who came up with the bright idea of telling our kids \u201cdon\u2019t take candy from strangers,\u201d only to backpedal on October 31st and say, \u201cOh, but tonight it\u2019s totally fine!\u201d Hypocritical much? I\u2019m not about to throw years of advice out the window just because <em>\u201cit\u2019s Halloween!\u201d<\/em> You do you, boo, but around here, we keep life consistent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. Sugar + Kids = Absolute Chaos<\/strong><br>If you\u2019ve ever given a kid too much sugar and watched the aftermath, you know it\u2019s like winding up Jojo the Idiot Circus Boy with a pretty new pet. Throw in a plastic pumpkin full of candy, and you\u2019ve got a recipe for a full-blown kiddie carnival\u2026 minus the ringmaster. No thank you. I love my sanity too much to sign up for that. If you hate yourself, have fun with that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. Self-Costuming Is Overrated<\/strong><br>Out here, we don\u2019t exactly hit up the costume store. Even if we did dress up, our Halloween \u201ccostume\u201d would likely consist of flannel, mud, and that wild-eyed look you get after wrestling chickens. Who needs makeup or fake blood when you\u2019ve got real dirt and pure exhaustion?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So this year, while the rest of the world buys into sugar comas and silly costumes, I\u2019ll be here on the homestead, saving myself a headache and a small fortune on candy that no one\u2019s coming for. The cows agree\u2014it\u2019s just not worth it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ah, Halloween.
